Windows 7 is the next release of the Microsoft operating system (sucessor to Vista), and you can download this release now from the Windows 7 Microsoft web site. I’ve been running the last available beta release of Windows 7 on my older Dell D610 laptop, and it seems to perform great with the older hardware. I’ve come across some minor graphic glitches, but for the most part it works very well for a beta version. When I have some time, I’m planning to install this newer version on my Dell laptop and give it a spin.
This Release Candidate version is due to expire in 2010, so that may be an indication that Microsoft won’t release the official version for public usage until next year. You’d think that with the recent layoffs at Microsoft (which is the 2nd time in history, I believe) they would rush to get the next incarnation of OS available ASAP to generate revenue, however, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
